vtsax-update-2VTSAX Millionaire Journey #2: $60,798.56

Today is the 2nd update of the VTSAX Millionaire Journey. This post explains the whole story from the beginning. I am not going to lie I haven’t seen a bull run like this since the late 1990’s. I see that everyone is profiting from trading and that is a bit concerning. When everyone does well in the market, those who aren’t prepared get crushed when the bears come crashing in. While I am enjoying my numbers on my VTSAX position I know one day this will turn around. When that happens I will look to add to my position at a discount to the price I am getting them at today.

Anyway, I watched Donald Trump’s State of the Union address the other night and I knew that his speech sounded so positive and upbeat that the market was going to rally. Lo and behold it did, and the market reacted very strongly the following day. I didn’t necessarily want to add to my VTSAX position on such a strong up day, however, March is here and I promised to update this journey monthly regardless of surges or declines.

Here are the numbers.

I was able to add in $2,963.57 to my VTSAX position. That number is a combination of previous income, trading, dividends, capital gains and option money. There was a $3,063.48 investment return since January 10th 2017. To some that might sound like a lot but keep in mind we have been in a strong bull run since Donald Trump took office. Things are not always pretty in the stock market and we all must take the good with the bad. Hopefully the bad won’t be as painful as the market bottom of March 9 2009.

If you are interested in reading more on VTSAX please check out my article that was recently published in Seeking Alpha. I also suggest picking up a copy of “The Simple Path to Wealth,” which inspired me to start this journey. My review here might help inspire you as well.

To wrap things up my Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund total is now $60,798.56.

As always feel free to reach out to me here and ask me any questions you may have.

Until next month.

  1. Hello Jai,
I am a junior in college and I am very interested in trading and gaining more knowledge. However I don’t know where to start since there is so much information to know and learn. Any advice?

    1. Hi Anna,

Why not finish college first so that you can give 100% to your studies? I would even suggest heading into the workforce before using your money to pursue trading. However, if you are not interested in hearing my fatherly advice I would start here. Please take your time learning about trading. It’s a tricky business that appears to be one way but is actually the opposite.

      1. Oh yes I will definitely finish my studies first, but besides that, I would like to put in time as well learning as much as I can about stocks, specifically penny stocks since that is what Tim suggests for people who don’t have a lot of money start with. If I may ask, how has your experience been with that?

I would also like to thank you for such great and valuable information you have put out there for the world to see. It has not only helped me, but also inspired me.
