Designer Kids Clothes: 5 Ways to Save
Brand new designer kids clothes aren’t cheap. However, depending on the brand, they are made very well. In fact, after having 2 kids I have learned what works (for me) both financially and quality wise. Don’t get me wrong, my kids aren’t walking around with Gucci and Prada from head to toe. It’s about saving money and not be foolish. And, I am not knocking no name brand items. They serve their purpose on many levels. However, if I can find quality designer kids clothes for less than no name brand items, I am completely sold.
My son wanted an official New York Fire Department Uniform. Yes he said official. When I looked online I was astonished. $49.99 was the price. There are 3 things I thought. 1 the price was too high. 2 what if my son grew before the item arrived, and 3 let me check Ebay. I opened up my trusty Ebay account and saw an official NYFD uniform for $10. So, I bought it and my son LOVED it. He wears the the rugged jacket to this day. And guess what? Once he is done with it I will sell it.
I got a 35% off coupon from a department store and thought I would check out some of their hidden deals. Designer kids clothes go on sale all the time but you have to look. Low and behold the sales rack had a few colorful Izod shirts that my son looked adorable in. Don’t get me wrong he looks adorable in pretty much everything but these shirts were heavy duty. So, I bought 3. The sale along with my coupon ended making me smile. I ended up spending around $6 per shirt. Now that is quality and savings.
One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure. In this case one man’s desire to save on designer kids clothes is… Well you get the drill. I can’t tell you how many deals you can find in a yard sale. In fact, if you are smart you can buy other people’s items and sell them for a profit. Remember Ebay? But, that is another blog post all together. I went to a yard sale one time and bought clothes for a buck or 2 a piece. Clothes that would normally go for $15 or more were now reduced 90% by the good old yard sale.
Craigslist is a yard sale and Ebay combined. You put in a search term and look for items that are being sold in your area. Maybe I am lucky for being in NYC because people just love to get rid of things. Space is limited so people don’t always have money on the forefront of their minds. I found a guy selling a bag of great designer kids clothes along with some no name brands for $50. There were so many clothes in there that I didn’t go clothes shopping for my kids for a few months.
Hand Me Downs
All my friends have kids. Those that don’t are having them soon. I guess having them becomes catchy at this stage of the game. Nevertheless, hand me downs are all part of the game. Luckily for me my good friend has a son 2 years older than mine. He has passed along Gucci, RL, Phat Farm and many more designer kids clothes. The cost? Free. Ok maybe dinner. The point is find friends with kids older than yours.
